I need your advice, mylotters
My car has seen better days. It's a 1991 Nissan with 211,000 miles. Repairs amount to $2,000 and that doesn't include fixing the air conditioning. My options for replacing the Nissan are limited. My budget will allow me to buy a $3,000 car. That would be a '90s car that most likely has close to 100K miles at best. I'm mainly interested in a Toyota or Honda because of their reputation for long life. The bottom line to what I'm asking is whether to fix my car or take my chances with a different used car?
Religious Unity . . . Is it Possible?
In 1991 Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote as follows: "No religion is an island. We are all involved with one another. Spiritual betrayl on the part of one of us affects the faith of all of us. Views adopted by one community have an impact on other communities. Today religious isolationism is a myth. For all the profound differences in perspective and substance, Judaism is sooner or later affected by the intellectual, moral and spiritual events within the Christian society, and vice versa."We fail to realize that while different exponents of faith in the world of religion continue to be wary of the ecumenical movement, there is another ecumenical movement: nihilism. We must choose between interfaith and inter-nihilism. Cynicism is not parochial. Should religions insist on complete isolation? Should we refuse to be on speaking terms with one another and hope for each other's failure? Or...

Things you may not know about Christmas
1.Think your Christmas Eve is stressful? Spare a thought for poor old Santa. He has less than one millisecond to deliver his presents to each household in the world - and that's if he does a 30-hour working day, allowing for the various time zones. Naturally he makes a bit of time back by skipping all the people on the naughty list.2.Christmas trees have been popular in Germany since the 16th century but only made it over to Britain three hundred years later. Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, originally came from Germany and made a tree part of the official celebrations at Windsor Castle. 3.The most expensive Christmas card in the world is a hand-drawn card that John Lennon sent to Beatles manager Brian Epstein. It sold at auction for £5,600 in April 2000.4.Baubles were probably invented thanks to alcohol. Around 200 years ago, Bohemian glass blowers used to enjoy a cold...
Please tell me what is so sinful about a Christmas Tree
Okay, I am kind of irritated right now with my adopted mom. She takes all the fun out of everything, and expects everyone to think like she does. She says, "Thank God that He is the Judge." There have been many years I have not had a Christmas tree, mainly because my mom died in the Christmas season (December 19th 1991) and I have been depressed every Christmas season and didn't want to even see it come around each year. Last year was the first year since 91 that we had a tree. This year, in our new house, we don't really have room for a tree in the house. So we plan on putting the tree on the side porch of the house and decorate it and the house. I think it will look really nice and help me enjoy the Christmas season this year.My mom (not my real mom... she is dead) starts talking about Christmas trees, Santa Claus having no part in Christmas. I explained that my church has a...

Who's your Sperm donor baby?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27683226/wid/11915773?gt1=31037LONDON - Britain is facing a sperm donor shortage after reversing confidentiality laws and limiting the number of women who can use sperm from one donor, fertility experts warned Wednesday.Britain in 2005 changed the law protecting anonymous sperm donors and allowed children to learn the identity of donor fathers — one reason, fertility experts say, there are fewer donors now.“The only countries that seem to have enough sperm are those that pay — like the U.S. and Spain — or the countries that retain anonymity,” said Allan Pacey, a member of the British Fertility Society that warned of the shortage in the British Medical Journal.“In the countries that have removed anonymity ... there seems to be a problem,” he said.In 1991, Britain logged 503 sperm donors, according to figures from the Human Fertilisation and...
Don't we already have a national security force....The National Guard?
Instead of recreating what we already have, the National Guard should return to it's origins. I have never agreed with the decisions to send these troops to fight in wars overseas. Any thoughts?[i]The National Guard, the oldest component of the Armed Forces of the United States and one of the nation's longest-enduring institutions, celebrated its 370th birthday on December 13, 2006. The National Guard traces its history back to the earliest English colonies in North America. Responsible for their own defense, the colonists drew on English military tradition and organized their able-bodied male citizens into militias. The colonial militias protected their fellow citizens from Indian attack, foreign invaders, and later helped to win the Revolutionary War. Following independence, the authors of the Constitution empowered Congress to "provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the...
Do liberals really believe conservative talk radio is just like porn?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_uhI2a2NH0Do liberals actually believe that conservative opinions are pornography? Are liberals so threatened that they're plotting and planning right now, at this very minute, to silence conservative thoughts and opinions from the public airwaves? You be the judge.FOX News asked Senator Chuck Schumer if liberals in Congress will try to implement the so-called Fairness Doctrine - a measure specifically designed to shut down Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and conservative talk radio.Schumer replied indignantly:“Do you think we should allow people to put pornography on the air? Absolutely not. Particularly on television or radio."Huh? No, it's NOT a joke! And he didn't stop there.Schumer nastily admonished decent Americans for some imagined hypocrisy:“The very same people who don’t want the Fairness Doctrine want the FCC...
