For me, I would consider someone is great if their work can withstand the challenge of time (longevity) and they are multi-talented. For example:Baroque: J.S Bach, G.F Handel, Antonio Vivaldi
Classical: W.A Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert
Romantic: Frederic Chopin, Felix Mendelssohn, Johann Strauss, Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner, Johann Brahms, Franz Liszt, Tchaikovsky, N.R Korsakov
20th century: Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Bela Bartok, Sergei Prokofiev, George Gershwin, Benjamin Britten, Leonard Bernstein, John T. Williams, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Frank Sinatra
Pop Music: Michael Jackson; Paul McCartney, John Lennon and The Beatles; ABBA, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Bee Gees, Cliff Richard, Celine Dion, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Bob Dylan
Only one surprise. Britney. She has been out of business/commission hasn't she for quite a while. Will Smith doesn't surprise me. His wife is producing her new show so they should have plenty of dough. Madonna is into other things and probably still getting reciguals on her music as well. I am always interested in the filthy rich. I would like to live for a month like they do. Just to know what it is like.
Hi virtualmirage,I do love all 80's music and have loads and loads of cds in my rack. But i am poor of time now i don't find time to listen such music anymore. I go with then in my ipod for only few minutes whenever i find time in my journey. I like all bollywood hits especially Kishore kumar songs and Mohammad Rafi's. Of course i like Madonna albums but now-a-days they are rocking with excellent music choreographed. Keep smiling and happy mylotting:)
This question really makes me realize that i have already come of age, and already too old for these. First is, i haven't heard any of Britney's songs. I just got ot know her because of her appearances in the news that are usually negative. Then as for Lady Gaga, I don't even know her, and this is the first time i have ever heard of her name. During my time, it was still at the prime of Madonna, and also of Olivia Newton John. I just cannot imagine how time passes by so fast. Well, i just feel that music nowadays are so different from those days when i was still so much younger. The music before tells more of liking and loving the men. Nowadays, the song is---It's raining men. Big difference...
she is talented i see her as the next madonna. she has a fresh way to serve her music. she also writes her own song and releasing poker face made her point to get the attention she deserves. outfits and dance move and videos are really edgy. its different in a way but fun to watch. my nephew who is 9 months old loves watching lady gaga's video. but like we all filipino knows.... gaga is a word for us to describe crazy. well she is crazy in a fashonable way. lol
I definitely think that a lot of music stars should put some more clothes on!! I guess that makes me a prude, I am only 25 though.
Nowadays, we have what are called 'tweens' so it's girls from 9-12 who are also starting to idolise these music stars and try to emulate them. I really think that girls are trying to grow up way too fast and are missing out on an innocent childhood, like everyone should have while they still have the opportunity. I guess, though, the thing about pop music, is that just about anyone can sing as well as stars like Madonna or Britney Spears, so it's not about the quality of the singing, but the stars have to compete in a sort of 'hotness' competition. Susan Boyle, I think, is so admired, because it is a complete novelty for someone so unattractive to make it as a singer. It is sad, but pretty much true, that pop music has almost solely become a beauty pageant...
LOL..I remember Madonna wearing yellow nail polish back in the day. Yeah all of those neon 1980's fashion color's are back. Even back then I disliked the yellow polish. I think I only remember wearing the white finger nail polish back then but then I would paint one finger black and the next one white. I'm in my late 30's also Schulzie but I sometimes wear purple and blue polish if I'm going out to a party or club.
That was an interesting video. I wonder sometimes if the similarity is one based on fashion or how people are coached to pose for the camera. One way or the other, I suppose similar looking celebrities occur because there are certain idealized stereotypes of beauty. The celebs might not look very similar naturally, but in costuming, posing, hair styling, and plastic surgery they may tend to converge on the same appearance.I saw a comparison of Madonna once which showed how her looks were homages to other famous beautiful people. I would think the idea is much the same.
Most movies portrayed by Tom Hanks are true stories. But the most movies i like was Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and Cast Away. They are a combination of drama, action, comedy which really shows that he is a versatile actor. I like also how he portrayed the character of an HIV- Aids patient in the movie Philadelphia. And how romantic he was on movies Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.Although i haven't seen the movie Angels and Demons yet, i think that it will also credit to his good act. I also forgot to mention him on the movie i watched before, A League of their Own, where he played as the Team Coach of All- Female Baseball which stars Gina Davis and Madonna.
From the BBC: "Pop star Madonna has said she 'wants to be like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and John Lennon.' The 48-year-old made the statement on US radio station Sirius - but added she wanted to 'stay alive'.She also defended a crucifixion scene in last year's Confessions tour. "We all need to be Jesus," she said. The show featured video messages of Aids orphans in Africa. 'Jesus's message was to love your neighbour as yourself and these are people in need,' she added, claiming it had not been her intention to be controversial."Hmmm... I don't know about her chances of being like those three, but I'd say she's the best singer of the group.
I think she's still hot, even if she made some surgical operations... or she didn't i don't know.. she is still beautiful and her music and videos still remind some people of the old days when madonna was a big star in the youth people music and i think she still is a big star in the music of this times!
